First day of Preschool!
Today was my little Lion Cub's very first day of preschool.
When the time came for us to formally SEPARATE, the child just looked at me and walked away. I watched her sit down to play over at the playdough table and wondered if she really understood me, that I was leaving the room (for a whole hour!). I went and kissed her again and said goodbye, but she hardly looked up. Not that I'm surprised, when we left the house this morning she yelled "YAY SCHOOL!" on the way out. She has been itching to get into the classroom after seeing her big sister go in there and play all of last year.
I was asking her about her very first school day while I was putting her down for her nap this afternoon and we talked about one or two of the other kids who were crying. She seemed quite concerned and understood that they were crying for their mommies. Then, with a grin she said,
"I crying too Mama." Followed by a giggle.
"I cryyyying..." Smile.
Yeah right.
Here are the girls as we were leaving this morning:
Then I said "Show me your backpacks" and they both did this:
Then I got them to turn around...
These DORA! THE! EXPLORAH! backpacks were revenge from my brother-in-law after we gave his boys matching (and slightly garish) Thomas the Tank Engine onesies. Anyway, they love them, and they were indeed worn to school and back today.
Here's hoping tomorrow goes as smoothly....

Piper Palin for President!
Did anyone catch Sarah Palin's speech at the Republican convention last night? Well, it was long and hard to listen to, you didn't really miss anything. Clearly what Mrs. Palin lacks in experience she is trying hard to make up for in "spunk" and "can-do attitude". The highlight for me was actually her daughter. Not poor Bristol Palin of late media frenzy, sitting next to her fiance, but Piper Palin. The seven year old was delightful to watch and if you missed her holding baby brother Trig, then you missed this fabulous moment, captured for posterity...
I think this may have been the highlight of the whole election process for me.
