Hello/salaams!
We are on the 2nd monthly package from Little Passports and it is really quite adorable. Please forgive the old photos and late posting - here is what we got in the first mailing:
A totally cute little suitcase to keep our treasures inside.
A letter from our traveling friends, Sam and Sofia.
A "passport" for keeping tabs on all the places they "visit".
A "boarding pass" for access to online games and quizzes.
A world map.
A photograph from their "adventure".
An activity sheet with games about the current country, and hints about next month's location.
Those were all the items that arrived in the initial start-up package. To give you an idea about what has been coming on a monthly basis, I'll describe what arrived in the mail from Sam and Sofia this month:
a letter from Japan describing the things they saw and did
a sticker of the Japanese flag for the passport
a map marker sticker for the map
a picture of a house in Japan
origami paper (20 sheets)
an eraser shaped like sushi
a Mt Fuji sticker for the suitcase
an activity sheet
a new "boarding pass" for online activities and games about this month's destination country.
As with everything homeschool related, I suppose, this is entirely what you make of it. These items will hold their attention for 5 minutes, or an hour depending on what we do with them. I am trying to get books out of the library etc. I would even love to start a lapbook or binder with all the destinations, and try some of the food native to each country. Right now, I am actually holding this package aside until we have the time to really get into it. If I can have some activities ready and at hand, we can make the best of that exciting moment when they open the package for the first time. I was pretty happy that the last time Maymuna was filling out the activity sheet, she paused, looked at me and said "I know this is homeschooling, Mom" and went back to it. It was like she was just letting me know that she had caught on... :-)
